Even the historical heroes of this movement, known as God's generals, like John G.

Lake, Charles Fox Parham, John Alexander Dowie, and William Branham, have all been exposed for being fraudulent.

This movement has no shortage of scandal, but John Cooper goes even further than what I just described.

He puts his and his wife, Corey's experience of spiritual abuse in their local congregation as evidence that the fraud and abuse is not isolated to a few churches and leaders, but is systemic in this movement due to its faulty ecclesiology.

I've actually wanted to do this conversation that you wanted to do with me multiple times and in multiple ways, and that is to talk about what does it mean to be non-denominational? I've had multiple guests who tell me, we came out of a non-denominational church and we found out that it wasn't what we expected.

The Norway base has had huge growth, a lot of people coming to it.

Maybe it is going off in a different direction with fire and fragrance, which raises the question, if you're not a denomination, how can you talk about directions and these people are doing that, that definite group is doing this? So I'm just looking at our show notes now because we we wanted to focus on non-denominationalism.

And I actually read through some of I listened to my first William Branham sermon.

What's funny is whenever I was in Branhamism, we looked at all of this mess and this chaos as chaos, and we would correctly brand it as something that just did not make any sense and was quite absurd, yet we were doing many of the same things.

That's the really, really crazy part of all of this.

I have sitting on my desk a little sword that [laughs] somebody gave me because I, I did a podcast talking about William Branham, who claimed he had a magic sword.

I grew up as a teenager listening to these recordings of this magic sword, and even as an adult, I'm believing that the man had a magic sword.

I'm not a psychologist, so I'm waiting for the right co-host to come on who can talk through it with some... expertise, but there is a chain of events that happened that is due to exactly that, that led to a whole slew of weird doctrines.

In fact, what you're talking about there with the adopted child, if you really understand where that came from, William Branham was bringing into the revival movement the idea that your bloodlines really mattered as far as your Christianity and your salvation.

People didn't catch on that it was a racist idea and that all of that ideology really came from his mentor, who was the head of the Klan.

What happened after this was, after the movement began to split, the independent assemblies of God began to form, or reform, I should say, and they were accepting of the Lateran theology and doctrine.

The core assemblies were denouncing it, and you had ministers who were on the fence.

In fact, Indiana became a rogue state largely due to the fact that William Branham, who was spearheading the latter reign post-World War II healing revivals, was from Indiana.
