What a gentleman he was.

Uh, you know, in the afternoon we have the memorial service at headquarters.

Uh, we s- we lost several members from headquarters that day, uh, including the, uh, uh, Bill Feehan, the first deputy fire commissioner, uh, Pete Ganci, the chief of department.

Uh, you know, the, the, the top of the job.

So we'll have a, a small memorial service there, and then we'll continue on our way, and we usually end, uh, at sunset at Engine 10 and Ladder 10.

Uh, just a very, very nice way to end the day.

We knew some people were trapped.

So he and the first deputy commissioner, Bill Feehan, were together on the west side of the South Tower.

I'm going to try to get, I think it was Lieutenant from 58 Engine that was trapped, get some help for him.

When the North Tower came down and they almost got far enough away, where we found them, we said, boy, they were within a few seconds of getting out of harm's way, but they both got hit by debris from the North Tower and they were both killed instantly.

So taking us back, you know, to that day and being down there and the towers have collapsed and you learn that your good friend Pete and Bill Fee? Bill Feehan.

Yeah, Feehan.

And I was on something today with his son who's been in the fire department 40 years and now has his job running rescue operations.

And I know Pete Gansey's son is on the job and Bill Feehan's son is on the job.

And it's just so Eddie Garrity.

And one guy after another has sons on the job who loved it so much, wanted to help strangers so much, was so proud of their heritage, of their father's.

And you mentioned Beth is my co-host today.

Beth Feehan, who's the daughter-in-law of Chief Bill Feehan.

Both of you have experienced that family loss, but it's also led you both to do such beautiful things in your life.

Beth, I'm going to toss the next question to you because you've been through this and that was a beautiful experience.
