... and others then just seeing the opportunity and having that dream of, "I want to make my own whisky." And that's where our history actually starts with, uh, William Grant, because he didn't come from a family with a rich background, and he had to work incredibly hard to get where he wanted in life.
Tino TookGUEST
5:21
And he was not allowed to finish his education by himself.
Tino TookGUEST
5:25
He had to get out and get a job.
Tino TookGUEST
5:45
... as a bookkeeper and then distillery manager.
Tino TookGUEST
5:49
So it's, it's a good example how, with the help of others, he can actually carve out a very, uh, different path than maybe your own upbringing is.
Tino TookGUEST
5:58
And the importance of having a vision and a dream and determination, that's, that has led to William Grant thinking I want to make my own whiskey.

It's incredibly hard to save up money, and I will take as much time as I need.

And what is the story then? Because you mentioned earlier about it's the stories that you tell.
GraemeHOST
20:51
What is the Tomaten story? We've talked about being like what will people associate with it? Like we mentioned the last one William Grant's and Glenn Fiddick's of like family owned and the regular bottle and you've got all these other you've got other brands that you can sort of do.
GraemeHOST
21:04
What is the story that you guys lean on with being as a selling point? So
Danny WhelanGUEST
21:09
I could sit here and I could talk to you guys about when it started in 1897 and it started because of the railway line that was being built and the need for that Tomaten Spey district stop and you could talk about all that stuff but probably the most important point for us is to talk about kind of where we are with Tomaten now and in terms of the style of whisky that we're known for and I think regions are really interesting things so like With a Highland single malt, if you could flick a stone far enough, you'd hit Speyside.
