Anyway, to your core question.

So when I walk in about a couple of decades earlier, Ronald Reagan, secretary of education, William Bennett called Chicago public schools the single worst in America.

And that legacy slash stench stuck around.

And I made it the number one focus of my priority.

Trump was a beneficiary of a lot of what Reagan did.

You know, we had people in the Reagan-Bush era, Bill Bennett and the Department of Education doing a lot of good things.

And you can see that carryover today.

We've got conservative publishers that are bringing out textbooks that are far different than the Howard Zinn, you know, people's history.

All right, let's go ahead and get to tonight's headline, or sorry, tonight's first segment, which is none other than On This Day in American History.

And for On This Day in American History, we read from The American Patriots' Almanac, written by William J. Bennett and John T. E. Cribb.

It is chock full of all kinds of interesting factoids about this wonderful country that we call home.

And no, I actually didn't forget.

You know, you still, if you can be personable, you still sit down, you make nice.

You know, there was one guy, Herb Kleber, who was the first deputy drug czar under William Bennett, the first drug czar back in the 1989-90s.

And he was somebody who I could appeal to to at least become an ally on little issues, right? You look at the civil asset forfeiture issue.

There were right wingers who hated everything about drug policy reform, but on civil asset forfeiture, because for them, the rights of personal property were so paramount, they became our allies.

Both Gingrich and Dick Armey, as well as the Clinton administration, are opposed to controlling legal immigration at all, and our beloved neoconservative friends are militantly opposed to any reform.

Indeed, as Morton Kondracke wrote in his column in Roll Call last year, it was William Kristol, now editor of the neoconservative Weekly Reader, excuse me, I mean the Weekly Standard [audience laughing] who, who, who persuaded Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett that it would be a terrific idea for them to come out against one eighty-seven on the eve of the election.

It was, in fact, a terrific idea, because more than anything else, the Kemp Bennett denunciation of one eighty-seven led to the collapse of their political careers.

As an encore, the same three have been pushing the Colin Powell ca-candidacy, which has now turned out to be even more of a bigger bomb for them than their earlier brainstorm.
