William Appleman Williams

This was at the height of the Vietnam War.

William Appleman Williams says that the tragedy of American diplomacy is that the United States thinks that the whole world wants to, you know, be open to American business.

And, uh, when the world, when countries decide that, uh, they don't wish to, either they will, um, resist the United States, at which point the United States will, um-- or they will go within themselves.

But one way or the other, they will not comply with this demand.
