They could have been cheap jump scares, but the way the really scary moments are structured in the movie, a lot of them are very telegraphed.

So that alone tells you like something's going to happen, but that doesn't take away from the gravity of what happened just because it's like a shock.

Like I think of, since we're already in crazy deep spoilers, I think of the moment when Sarah dies and the way the shot of her.

First of all- bear a piece of shit for knowingly like being in a relationship with a clearly harmful psychopathic puppet woman yeah and knowingly going to do a clandestine meeting with another girl you killed her like you killed her yeah which is like infuriating in its own right but the shots framing Sarah in those scenes are leaving the background wide open for you to see what's back there and like for you to anticipate something coming And you know it's coming.

And when it does come, it's still as horrible as you were.

It's worse.
