If you haven't seen Wild Wild Country, it's a 2018 documentary about a guru named Osho who, joined by a flock of followers as well as a sinister personal assistant, took over a town in Oregon in the 1980s.

Romana did not enter the race, but there was an opposition candidate who challenged the mayor and who was on the side of the locals who had started to find the irate townspeople more annoying than Romana.

Rachel traveled back to town for the vote.

I will watch them This is a never-ending saga for me trying to get through this fuck-ass documentary.

The documentary is good.

One of my favorites that I discovered in the 80s is Prince.

And I did get to see him at the L.A. Forum during the Purple Rain tour.

You may remember, if you haven't watched it, it's worth watching on Netflix.

It's a documentary series called Wild Wild Country.

Oh, yes.

And it is all about that cult of the Indian guru Rajneesh.

Did you happen to watch Wild Wild Country, the 2018 documentary about the controversial cult leader who built a utopian city in the Oregon desert and whose clashes with locals erupted into a national scandal after the group took over a small town, saw their hotel bombed, and eventually poisoned a small city with salmonella via a restaurant salad bar? It turns out the group was planning to take over the Oregon wine industry, too.

In this month's print issue, writer at large Michael Alberti tells the tale of how the group, known as the Roshnishis, laid the groundwork for what could have been the state's largest vineyards before their leaders were charged for a variety of crimes, including attempted murder.

I found it to be a fascinating yarn, so I invited Alberti onto the Wine Enthusiast podcast to go beyond what he was able to cover in his thoroughly reported feature.

There shouldn't be anything there.

There should just be scrub brush, cows, and that's it.

Yeah, I mean, that was Wild Wild Country is one of those documentaries that I have just been fascinated by.

I think all the found footage, the whole story, obviously, is crazy.

with what the people are giving them.

Oh, my gosh, you just remind me, I watched, have you seen Wild Wild Country? No.

Oh, I recommend that to you and to our viewers because it's a fascinating story of a guru from India who went to America and bought up land and had a huge following largely of Westerners, of young people who were just like, yeah, we'll follow you, and they all wore red.

Beautiful.

Now, are there enlightened beings in the world? For sure.

osho is a um uh i guess you could say a guru from india oh i don't know that it had a cult and that basically became a uh public projection of what happens when you disconnect yourself from god and when you let your ego run the way It's a very fascinating documentary, if anybody hasn't seen it.

It's Wild Wild Country is the name of the documentary.

And I watched him go through this trajectory of allowing adulation.

And we see this in movie stars.
