Wild at Heart

It goes to the director of the best feature film at the festival.

The Conversation, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, All That Jazz, Paris, Texas, Wild at Heart, Pulp Fiction.

They've all won the Palme d'Or like Dancer in the Dark.

Dancer in the Dark beat, this is mad, it beat In the Mood for Love and it beat Oh Brother Where Art Thou and it beat Yee Yee for the Palme d'Or.

She's like, Oh, there we go.

And then a couple of years later, she's in wild at heart.

There's no set of psychology degrees there.

right we should note that uh so mclaughlin you know mr show off here because of the editing of this it's kind of awkward because she she's got a boyfriend in this but he also has a girlfriend but they cut every part of hers played by mega malali and they cut her scenes they cut references to her so he looks like oh i'm just cool but the the reality situation is they're both with somebody and fighting and he's a college guy

But I think Dune and Elephant Man, were those shot by Freddie Francis, the old Hammer director? I think they were.

This is Eraserhead, so

it's wild at heart.

That's also Frederick Owens? Yeah, Frederick Owens.

And he said Lynch had always basically sat over the shoulder of the editor, literally, like, shot by shot, frame by frame, assembling it or whatever.

And when they had shot Wild at Heart, it was a mess and, like, just didn't work.

And basically, Duane told him at a certain point, like, "Will you please, like, fuck off for a little bit so I can take what you have and actually reveal the soul of it?" And then, and forever, so Lynch did it.

It came out brilliantly.

I've never seen that.

I just watched Wild at Heart recently.

I watched that for the first time last week.

Oh, I don't think I've seen that.

This is one I called out for, but finally picked it up in the most recent After Dark Neo Noir box set from imprint.

But Wild Heart is getting a Criterion 4K, David Lynch's Wild at Heart with-

I think everybody should watch it at least once.

I think David Lynch had this incredible insight into how hard it is to be a woman somehow uh for a straight white male and how hard it is to be in hollywood and there's something really beautiful about how he attacks that in mahalan drive plus it's funny as hell like that movie is so funny i love it so so so much um I think that my least favorite David Lynch film is Wild at Heart.

I have a lot of issues with that film.

I think that the performances are fine.

So...

Those are my two.

But also I will watch it if I if I could never watch another David Lynch film or have to watch, you know, Wild at Heart.

I just watch Wild at Heart because there are great moments in it as well.

And then there's the Twin Peaks second series and Lynch is kind of really on top of it for the first... was it 10, 12 something episodes, really until the point in which the whole revelation about what happened happened.

And then he goes off and I think he's doing Wild at Heart.

And then there's like eight, nine, 10 episodes, which literally like 10 episodes in which, you know, Harley Hurley turns up on his bike, starts having a picnic, says, I can't do this anymore, gets on his bike and goes, And everything falls apart.

And then Lynch comes back at the end and then oversees the very final thing, the very final episode, which is genius.
