Wiglaf

Even though he's an old man, Beowulf decides he's going to fight the dragon alone, as heroes do.

He takes a group of his best warriors, but as they approach the dragons, everybody except one of them, a loyal young kinsman, which is someone in his family called Wiglaf, which is not a very popular name, but I quite like it, Wiglaf.

They flee in terror.

Beowulf foots the dragon, but he's mortally wounded, and then with Wiglaf, they manage to kill the dragon, etc.

The eleven companions broke and fled to the wood.

Only Wiglaf, son of Weohstan, kinsman of Beowulf, remembered the gifts he had received and the oaths he had sworn.

He rebuked the others and ran to his lord.

Together they faced the dragon.

Wiglaf's shield burned away.

The dragon seized Beowulf by the neck, and its venom sank in.

Wiglaf struck lower, into the soft belly.

Beowulf drew his short knife, the last weapon left to him, and cut the dragon through the middle.
