What's her name again? The one that was in Widows.

Viola Davis.

And she's telling Black Adam you need to behave, you know.

Yeah.

Yeah, but I mean, a lot of heist films will use the event to tell another story, won't they? Because Widows, which is, I think, a really good latter-day heist film, Stephen Queen's film with Viola Davis, it could have been considered for the remake slot.

Yeah.

this month for the theme because it is a a film version of a tv show um that is about the women sort of coming out from under their sort of rather sort of like repressed lives do you know what i mean and dog day afternoon is a sort of a satire of how the police operate completely and the um the robbers, you know, Al Pacino's character has a specific kind of reason for committing his heist.

I would write other titles down before this one.

I'd probably be saying Dog Day Afternoon.

I'd say Widows, because I'm a big fan of that.

I'd say Inside Man.

But I'm trying to think of somebody who's super magnetic, who I would just absolutely want to see in anything.

Well, Patricia from Widows Bay, that actress, is hilarious and has such an interesting face.

And that's just kind of more topical.

Yeah.

But I just don't know why if you're a dog person you wanna take recognition away from these hardworking dogs.

You remember the dog that was in both Game Night and, uh, Widows?

Yes.

The Steve McQueen movie.

John Goodman, same.

Viola Davis is awesome in Widows.

I don't know if you've seen Widows.

I have not.

her.

I had no idea what it was.

Turns out it's an incredible heist action thriller with the name Widows.

I remember talking to Gillian Flynn.

I think she's still a Chicagoan, but, you know, around the time that where her film adaptation of Widows, her script adaptation that was directed by Steve McQueen had come out, and that was based on a six-hour British series that came from the Prime Suspect creator, uh, Lynda La Plante, and that's one act of serious compression, right, six to two hours.

At the same time, she was, uh, finishing up Sharp Objects, which was a pretty short novel.

This is Flynn's own, and the dictate was eight episodes, not eight episodes of, like, 41 minute but, like, closer to an hour.

And then that was kind of a challenge in a different way, and I don't know if either...

I liked-- I vastly preferred Widows of the two [chuckles] but that's, you know, that's a different story.

But the, that is not an easy thing, and that's a common certainly what we talk about all the time about certain miniseries where you just feel like this, does it really justify the length? And how do you as an adapter cope with that?

I mean, I've only found one way to cope with it, which is just to decide that the most important thing is, is character and your understanding of character.
