And I would just ride my bicycle over there and watch all the lowriders, you know? and uh uh so that's where i would see the imperials and you know the course of dukes and then the old memories which were part of dukes and they kind of branched off i think this happened around 84 85 same same cars the the style but uh what really with the lowrider clubs was i had older sisters and and you know they're they were going out with guys one sister was into the muscle cars so she had guy that was a muscle car guy and the other one was into lowriders so uh yeah so um yeah yeah so whittier boulevard is a iconic cruising spot in los angeles in east l.a right so uh i was younger than my older sisters so my mom would say if you're gonna go oh go you have to take your little brother you know that kind of thing so i would be in the back seat watching all the lowrider happenings at whittier boulevard or at leasing park when i was like 13 14 years old right and uh that's where i saw all the colorful cars you know during the 70s all the lower riders were like candies flakes and pearls i like to call them multi-graphic all that you know sick lifestyle car club imperials uh you know all all those cars uh uh group which is another uh club that goes way back in east la so i'm i'm seeing these as a 13 14 year old and then i'm going to all the shows uh the lowrider super shows at the alley alley uh uh sports arena which is no longer there now it's a soccer our la soccer team's stadium but was going there seeing all these cars when lowriders were on a rotisserie full displays all mirrors so that was my early influences you know i mean

well there was another term that was called cow bug okay it was kind of a cross of a cow looker and a cow style car because they would have aftermarket mirrors maybe have one piece windows some would have uh the molding still, but it was still that phenol influence.
Robert VelisGUEST
32:55
They still had the blinged out wheels, either polished five-spoke MPs, polished alloys, polished center lines.
Robert VelisGUEST
33:03
So that was a cow bug, but me and my group of guys, Bugs Buddies, Renee from the Dukes, we started using the cal style and it started going spreading because uh we would cruise uh whittier boulevard you know and it just the term just stuck you know it's a style you know it wasn't like uh we wanted bling in our cars you know polish wheels polish just like the low riders

And then when that would get broken up, we'd all end up at the hangout spot where there was usually no cops off of Union Pacific in Indiana and close to City Commerce.
Eddie RubalcabaGUEST
10:45
And then when that got broken up, we'd cruise down Whittier Boulevard, the traditional cruising spot in Indiana.
Eddie RubalcabaGUEST

It was an endless night.

After that got done, I'd get back home and go to my neighbor's house where they were still partying.
