Whitey on the Moon

Doesn't he have better things to do?

I'm going to have to look up where I saw this, but someone makes a comparison between this song and Gil Scott Heron's Whitey on the Moon.

Okay.

It was kind of like a spoken word thing.

Right.

I'm reminded of the Gil Scott-Heron song, "Whitey on the Moon."

And if you see the wonderful documentary Summer of Soul about this, uh, Soul Festival that happened in Harlem shortly after Woodstock, then there's a whole section of the documentary about interviewing the people in Harlem at Marcus Garvey Park about the moon landings right after they happened, and they're all like, "Uh, yeah, whatever, dude." [laughs] Like, "We are, we are not down with that.

That is not helping our lives whatsoever." And it was really fascinating to hear.

Chicago-born Gil Scott-Heron's performances became very popular.

This is Whitey on the Moon from 1970.

We have a poem here.

It's called Whitey on the Moon.

[laughs]

And, uh, it was inspired, it was inspired by some whities on the moon.

All right.

That's it.
