White Noise

And then skipping...

Far into the recent past of Baumbach's career, I re-watched White Noise, which I saw upon its original release.

And I would say this is the least...

It might be the least well-regarded movie of his career other than Highball.

You know, like he's, he's venturing into the unknown with most of the work he does.

Um, But, you know, sometimes you have to make a...

It's like when I was thinking with Baumbach, with White Noise, or with, like, Alexander Payne making downsizing.

Like, sometimes you go...

Where my school – so Noah Baumbach, the incredible filmmaker, went to my high school in Brooklyn.

And he did a big casting call for this movie he made called White Noise.

And he basically asked his old drama teacher, who was still my drama teacher at the school, to get everyone in her class to audition.

And I did like nine different auditions for him and got lucky enough to get the part.

Baumbach and Gerwig, they co-wrote Barbie, but I like the small-scale kind of New York character, you know, movies like Frances Ha and Mistress America, where they were kind of at their best.

And Baumbach's movies are not as big as hers, but both of them have kind of gone bigger like White Noise is this big kind of epic movie and I mean I like Jay Kelly a lot but it's a little bit splashier than some of his early stuff and that's why it's interesting to look at something like Kicking and Screaming or in Gerberg's case Nights and Weekends and also the last movie I was going to talk about which is The Squid and the Whale which I think is the movie that kind of put Baumbach into a higher class of critical darling.

This is from the mid-2000s and kind of inspired by his own childhood and his parents' divorce.

It's a little bit...

yeah that was you

know what i'm talking about yeah do you know what i'm talking about It's called white noise.

It was

the airborne toxic event in the plot of white noise.

And then in reality, it happened in 2023 in February.
