White Nights

You've convinced me.

But what am I gonna be reading? Well, Dominic, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Shining by Stephen King, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.

Salinger, Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

So much to come.

You know, I think part of what we're talking about with this reissue phenomenon is some sense of resonance between the content of these books and the lives of the younger readers who were excited about them.

How do you account for the Penguin Classics edition of Dostoevsky's White Nights about a lonely young man in St. Petersburg? As you say, it's an even more left-field candidate for virality.

I

saw one tweet that said, you think you know love, and then you read Dostoevsky's White Nights.

Now it's available as an audiobook narrated by a guy from Bridgerton.

It was a wonderful night.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, Goldfinger by Ian Fleming, so that's Bond.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and The Shining by Stephen King.

So two people that we mentioned in this episode coming up.

Yeah.

But do you think Crime and Punishment, would that be a movie or would that be a TV series?

Dostoevsky right now like people are like all the youngins are buying it so I was like I wouldn't be surprised to do something with that or White Nights because White Nights everyone's buying White Nights for some reason like that's the one that people are like

Or even the brothers.

Dostoevsky is just having a resurgence right now.
