That's interesting that those are the four they picked then because it does feel like there are certain concepts that are missing.
K
20:11Kevin KensonHOST
Like it's very odd to do Black Mage but no White Mage.
K
20:17Kevin KensonHOST
But, hmm.
K
20:19Kevin KensonHOST
Yeah, I didn't catch that part in the panel.

Episode 330 - Truly Cursed (feat. Final Fantasy Resonance, Castlevania Belmont's Curse, Pragmata & More!)

It's a little like Persona's system, where in Persona, if you... hit an enemy with a super effective attack effectively they go down for a little bit if you hit every single enemy with that you get what's called an all-out attack where the entire party comes through and does loads of damage um so it's not exactly the same as that but it has kind of elements of that idea to it um which is cool and i think early on it's quite easy to get your head around and quite fun to engage with and it's pretty quick as well you have the traditional speed up stuff you can press the speed up button to kind of like wreck your way through battles pretty pretty rapidly um and then they start introducing what are called visions and these are old Final Fantasy characters that basically become equipped to your character.
N
17:41NBZHOST
So you start off and you basically get the White Mage and the Black Mage from the original Final Fantasy.
N
17:46NBZHOST
And you can equip those characters to your main party members, and they then gain the abilities of those characters.
N
17:54NBZHOST
So I gave the White Mage to Rain.
N
17:57NBZHOST
So his regular attack is like, he just does a normal attack, and then he has a couple of skills.
N
18:02NBZHOST
One of them is... using a fire spell one of them is like doing a kind of tackle attack that does a lot of stagger damage but when i put the white mage on him he now has access to a heal and he now has access to a couple of buffing moves basically and you can swap these vision characters between anyone so if i wanted to give a heal to someone else in my party i could swap it over to the other person and then they would now have access to heals basically um they do say in the game that it's better to pair um a similar type of character with that same character because they get benefits for doing so so like i just got the third character who is a medic and so it's better for me to put the white mage on the medic because they are kind of synergized with each other essentially they both have the same kind of class role so they'll get more benefits for doing it But these vision characters almost act like espers in Final Fantasy 6 where...
N
18:55NBZHOST
Oh, sorry, not espers.
N
18:56NBZHOST
More like materia in 7 where the materia itself is the thing that levels up and you can move that between people.

B
85:29BrettHOST
Right.
B
85:30BrettHOST
Well, so this is the this is the one kind of weird.
B
85:34BrettHOST
This is the weird lore part to letting random Joe Schmoes be like the thing about a lot of the jobs in 14 is that they are unique in the sense that like so the obvious example is white mage.
B
85:48BrettHOST
So technically white mages in the setting of 14 can only be Pajalis, which are a very specific species of people and no one else can be white mages.

So I was curious, which job slash jobs do all currently find it really hard to connect with? Perhaps it's not your preferred play style, doesn't synergize well with other jobs, or maybe it's just plain boring.
L
34:24Lukile BravestoneHOST
With Evolved Mode coming in 8.0, do you think it will incentivize you to give those jobs a go again? Or do you feel, regardless, it's just never going to connect for you? As a Dragoon main and White Mage and Paladin as secondaries, I'm especially eager to see how they change the base around Reborn classes as we've been with them for so long.
L
34:43Lukile BravestoneHOST
Anyway, eager to hear your response.
L
34:45Lukile BravestoneHOST
And as always, thank you for your ongoing discussions, laughs, and speculating.

I'm excited to talk about your blue mage journey when we get into all this, because I think you're a much higher level than I am.

That was at the beginning where I just said that we had a horrible white mage.

So I pivoted.

I was able to run, because I still don't really enjoy White Mage that much, but I was able to get through some of the other dungeons that I struggle with as healers a little bit easier.

Oh.
C
14:36ChrisHOST
If one of your player, if one of your characters died, you either had to have the Life spell with a white mage, assuming you had a white mage, or every town had a special building in it that was either, like, a church or a shrine with, like, a dude sitting inside, and if you go up to him and one of your people are dead, um, they revived them, I think for a fee too.
C
14:56ChrisHOST
It wasn't just like, "Hey, yeah, they're, they're back alive." Um, 'cause going to an inn wouldn't revive dead people.
C
15:01ChrisHOST
Neither, neither did tents.
C
15:12ChrisHOST
Um, so like, like that shit back in, like, 1987 would've been brutal in a game like this.
C
15:18ChrisHOST
Um, the Pixel Remaster kind of like made that a little bit easier in a lot of way.
C
15:23ChrisHOST
Um, though I've, I, I think I only used a Phoenix Down, like, once 'cause by the time I was having, like, actual trouble with fights, um, the white mage I had did have, um, Life.
C
15:32ChrisHOST
So, like, I was always able to just resurrect, like, myself and then heal up.
