Whit Bissell

After patrolman Robert Rawlings, John McGuire, stops him one night and Roy shoots him, the Los Angeles police begin a methodical investigation led by Sergeant Marty Brennan, Sky Brady, and Sergeant Chuck Jones, James Cardwell.

The trail eventually leads to electronic dealer Paul Reeves, Whit Bissell, who has unknowingly been selling Roy's stolen equipment.

When the police attempt to trap Roy, another violent confrontation leaves Jones badly wounded.

Roy himself is shot, but avoids medical treatment by performing surgery on himself.

The clip dialogue, official tone, procedural details, and emphasis on method rather than melodrama all feel like stepping stones towards those later Dragnet series.

The supporting cast reinforced that feeling because the film is filled with faces that seem to belong in film noir.

Roy Roberts, Whit Bissell, Scott Brady, even smaller parts contained actors like John Dinner, Kenna Tobey, Dorothy Adams, and Brian Folger.

They're exactly the kind of actors who give classic film noir its... texture? They may not always be the stars, but they make the world believable.

It's just, yeah, it's not as easy to recommend as the original.

I would say, though, that if we're picking Whit Bissell's for the second, I would pick Moe, played by Simon Reynolds, the second of the two antagonists, the two bullies, whatever we want to call them.

The somewhat more philosophical one with the bad heart.

I thought he was pretty fun.

"Stunning new 4K restorations from the original camera negatives.

The first 13 episodes of the late '50s crime drama, Lock 'Em Up." Uh, so we've got no special features listed, but guest stars including Robert Conrad, Harry Dean Stanton, D- Dan Cannon, Lise- Linda Lawson, Gavin MacLeod, Ellen Corby, Leo Gordon, Whit Bissell, Nancy Gates, James Griffin, Jay Novello, Myron Healey, Peter Leeds, Casey Rogers, Karl Swenson, Richard Reeves, June Blair, Joseph Crehan, Charles Maxwell- Author Arthur, uh, Bantanides, I don't know [laughs] Addison Richards, Al Peters Jr., and many more.

When I started to read that list, it was because I saw Harry Dean Stanton, and then when I saw the list keep going longer and longer, I wished I hadn't done that.

[laughs] Yeah.

Script by David Duncan and it stars Arthur Franz, Joanna Cook Moore, Nancy Walters, Troy Donahue, who briefly had like a career as a heartthrob, about 15 or 20 minutes long.

And I think notably, Whit Bissell, who has been in at least two, if not three, of the movies that we've covered in the past.

Yes.

Mary, would you be so kind as to read synopsis number one?
