Michael, you mentioned Devolution earlier in the show, right? So do you remember the great band Devo in which the name comes from? Whip it.

But, I mean, they had another song.

That was the flip side of whip it by the way.

And then you get to come on and work on Freedom of Choice, which, which is one of my favorite records by them.

I mean, besides, like, you know, it's got the hit that I think every, like, quasi person would say, "Oh, I know Devo." Oh, they, who, "Who knows Devo?" "Oh, it's, uh, you know, they do the Whip It song." Which is, like, not my favorite song by them out of all m- it's incredible, but dude, fucking The Girl You Want.

My real favorite song, dude, is, is, it's something, it's a b- from the bonus recording, too, and I'm hoping, I'm hoping you, you did work on that as well.

Let's talk about [laughs] let's ta- The Girl You Want.

I mean, what's that like working with Devo on their third record, and them bringing you something like Whip It? And I mean, or just like, y- you know, thoughts.

I mean, just-

Um, like a lot, and a lot of really left-of-the-dial stuff, you know, like, uh, The Flying Lizards, and he was a guy, first time to ever play me Devo.

He played me the first record, and then I was like, [laughs] "I love this." And then they became wildly popular when "Whip It" came out.

And, uh, so, but he turned me on to so many punk bands, and then it just kinda, uh, you know, steamrolled from there with punk.

And it wa- it was so funny because a lot of guys I knew that liked punk refused to like new wave, and I never understood it.

Yeah.

This 7-inch is a cover version of Devo's Whip It.

And I've just noticed...

Both of those feature Karu Sakurai, who sang when we did this record for us, and she's now a full-time...

It's from an Akron-based band, Devo.

Frankie, remember the Akron-based group Devo? I sure do.

I was never a big Devo fan.

to admit I wasn't either.

Akron-based new wave band had their biggest hit for their band in late 1980 called Whip It.

Now, actually, I kind of did like this because it was, as we've talked about, so different.
