Where Is My Mind?

Think about Gigantic.

Think about Where Is My Mind.

Those are verse, chorus, verse.

There are fewer bridges in Pixie songs.

We also got into his recent run of singles, including how a last-minute writing session with Miranda Lambert turned into the song Hardwired.

Why interpolating the pixies? Where is my mind? And that song gives both of the songs an entirely different meaning.

and how his music keeps finding connections he never even planned.

He's going to open up about the song Corner Man, which he does see as a sequel to Father's Son, and the realization that moving forward after Son of Dad might mean finally letting go of his father, even as he continues to show up in other songs.

You know, that's, you know, that that's kind of what keeps me going.

Well, even hearing how they talk to each other, like, for instance, that track that we're talking about with Hardwired there, like it's one thing that could be novelty that, you know, you found some guitar lines that were, you know, common and you stuck it in there.

But but the actual part and the way I hear it when you're singing, where is my mind like that? that feels very part of the lyrics that you were talking about of these people that are hardwired and the mental cost of that endurance.

Yeah.

And as I speak to you now, from Wildwood's Blue Studio, up on the wall right over there, art from the 1988 debut album containing a song that poses this question.

Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind?

Off the Surfer Rosa record, Where Is My Mind is the question from the Pixies.

From songs that questioned where to ones that ask why.

Like the very first song we got to hear featuring David Lee Roth's replacement in Van Halen, as Sammy Hagar asked, "Why can't this be love?" That was 1986.

Yeah, your head will collapse if there's nothing in it.

And you'll ask yourself, where is my mind?" Whose theme?

Darby Allin?

Nope, this is Orange Cassidy's Where Is My Mind?

Orange Cassidy.

I meant to say Orange Cassidy in my head.

Yes, it is.

God.

Your head will collapse if there's nothing in it.

And you'll ask yourself, where is my mind?

I'm gonna say Brian Kendrick.

It, it's not him, but-

No, this theme belongs to Orange Cassidy.

Orange Cassidy's Where Is My Mind? By the Smashing Pumpkins.

Oh my God.

Been a long wound road, and I'm just getting started.

I love the original.

I think the song Where Is My Mind generally is, as a song, is one of the greatest songs ever written.

It's so simplistic and so hypnotic and so effective.

It just sets up camp in your head.

Their most recent record, Above Below and So, came out in February of this year.

It's got six, seven tracks, six tracks.

And that particular song, Where Is My Mind, was released as a standalone single in August.

Spectacular stuff.

Um, so that's it for sessions this past week.

Uh, I released Where Is My Mind on Sunday the 20th from the Pansexual Peanut Butters.

Me and Robert Cooper reviewed Anthrax, Curse, and Pacifio, and then I released a TikTok on it, which actually was fairly popular after the fact.

People definitely had some concerted opinions about Anthrax.
