Where Is Everybody?

So on this day in 1959, the legendary science fiction television series, The Twilight Zone, premiered on CBS.

The first episode was titled, Where Is Everybody? And it follows a man who finds himself completely alone in a mysterious town with no memory of how he got there.

The series ran for five seasons and 156 episodes, becoming one of the most influential television shows of all time.

Its stories frequently use supernatural events and unexpected twists to explore human nature and social issues.

And The Twilight Zone asks...

Where is everybody? Then for our deep cut spotlight, near dark trades Dracula's castle for an RV.

The sleeping arrangements are the least of your problems.

Trust me on that one.

Now let's talk about something that primed an entire nation for spooky season.

On October 2nd, 1959, The Twilight Zone premieres on CBS, and Rod Serling gives television a new address for the impossible.

The first episode, called Where Is Everybody, stars Earl Holliman as a man who can't remember who he is or how he reached a completely deserted town.

The diner is stocked, a jukebox plays, a telephone rings, everything suggests somebody was here a moment ago.

Yeah.

The very first episode, "Where Is Everybody?" About the guy that just wakes up in a town that's totally deserted.

Mm-hmm.

And again, that has surreal visual incredible metaphors in that episode.

That's what a pilot episode is supposed to do.

It's supposed to lay out the themes of the TV series.
