When the Levee Breaks

So, you know, I think in a previous conversation, you've kind of explained to me about songs that are driven by drums.

And I mean, when the levee breaks comes to mind.

Right.

And

From their 1998 debut EP, also called Evanescence, that song is called Where Will You Go.

Dig the funereal organ, dig the arresting, bone-deep, eternal mournful power of Amy Lee's voice, and yeah, dig the drums from Led Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks.

That John Bonham drum loop feels a little out of place there, a little disruptive, but let's say that only adds to the song's aura of alienation.

Look, all rock bands are power struggles, and it might be unfair, but usually the singer, the front person, the lyricist, the focal point, the singer usually wins the power struggle.

There's a couple of, like, one song that I think Don't Fade For.

I heard a little bit of Led Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks.

pretty evident but but it wasn't the only thing that i heard um either so yeah that's the the other one i think that sounded a lot like the dirt bombs to me it sounded like if the dirt bombs had reinterpreted when the levy breaks that's sort of what that song sounded like to me um

I didn't know this when I was a kid, right? But what Led Zeppelin did was they, they, uh, paid tribute to the great blues guitarists of the...

and blues singers of the, uh, the 1920s and '30s.

And a lot of their music might have been forgotten, but, uh, do you think some boys from Great Britain sang, uh, "Keep on rainin', levee's gonna break"? You think that happened in, in, uh, England? [laughs] When the levee breaks.

You know, uh, all their songs.

They, they just put a bri- brilliant spin on them.

With a little bit of info, maybe you did or did not know, but John Bonham is sort of playing on the album Treasure.

What it is, is Cocteau Twins used a drumulator drum machine, and they put in quite a few samples of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham, specifically When the Levee Breaks.

And they used those samples and kind of made their own sound.

But it's John Bonham.
