When I Come Around

It's freedom, even if the plumbing doesn't work.

And then, of course, when I come around...

Now here's where Green Day demonstrated just how good they were at writing mainstream rock songs.

When I Come Around isn't particularly fast.

It doesn't rely on outrageous lyrics.

It's built around a simple, memorable guitar riff and a melody that practically begs you to sing along.

The guitar riff is ugly in the best possible way.

It's grinding, aggressive, almost uncomfortable, and the music video was deliberately disturbing.

Yeah, don't do that one.

Green Day, when I come around, don't do that one.

Green, no, not that one.

So let's see.

1994, we got Longview, Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around...

J-A-R, Jar Geek, Stink Breath, Stuck With Me, Brainstew, Slash Jaded, Hitch and a Ride, Good Riddance, Time of Your Life, Redundant, Nice Guys Finished Last, and then into the 2000s.

We have Minority, Warning, Waiting, Pop Rocks and Coke, I Fought the Law, and then American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Holiday, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Jesus of Suburbia, The Saints Are Coming With You Too, Working Class Hero, I think that's a Bob Dylan song, isn't it? John Lennon song, that's what it is.

Wait, so quit my whining because it's bringing her down.

All right, unclear.

And then When I Come Around was the same album.

So let's hear what that sounds like.
