Whangarei Harbour

I mean, what does it look like? What are they up to?

Yeah, well, we've got three of them in Rangunu Harbour at the moment in Northland and one slightly north of Rangunu in Paringaringa and then one to the south in Whangarei Harbour.

So, yeah, it's interesting.

I've It's pretty easy to get sort of in the trap of looking to see where the turtles are all the time.

You see the females come and pick up a shell and hoof it that way and bring a little black piece of something in there and do a bit of landscaping themselves.

The first nesting zone was made using shells dredged out of Whangarei Harbour.

course there's not a lot of commercial shell available that kind of suits what Tariti need and this was ideal but it needed cleaning and biosecurity and everything so with Ari we worked out a process and found a way to clean it and sift it through and then we ended up with this nice concentrated shell that we can bring out and use where we need it.
