Sometime that afternoon, radio station WGAD in Gadsden, Alabama, received an anonymous phone call.

The caller told them there was a man walking down Highway 11 they should interview.

The station sent reporter Charlie Hicks, never knowing who made that call.

The ballistic evidence, while disputed, pointed toward his rifle, and Moore himself had written about feeling threatened by the man he encountered on that road.

But most probable isn't a conviction, and Floyd Simpson died having never been charged or required to account for what happened on Highway 11 on the evening of April 23, 1963. the anonymous phone call to the radio station, well, that was never explained.

Who made that call and why? Was it someone who knew what was coming and wanted more to have a witness on record? Was it something more sinister, someone alerting others to his exact location on the road that was broadcast on WGAD? And then there was William Lewis Moore himself.

From a distance, his final walk can look almost impossible to understand.
