I was more influenced by Larry King and, uh, Jim Bohannon.

Uh, and, um, funny is, um, WFUZ, Michael Kay, who's now the voice of the Yankees-

Mm-hmm

... and, um, uh, Breen, Mike Breen, who's the voice of the NBA now.

Correct, yeah.

When they were in college, they were at Fordham together at, at WFUZ, and it was a college radio station.

Before sports radio existed, the college radio station did a show Friday and Saturday night called Sports Talk or Sports Rap or something, and they would take phone calls from the tri-state area, and that was, that was the greatest thing in the history of mankind, 'cause you had these college guys talking sports.

But it turns out the one grows up to be Michael Kay-

WEQX out of Vermont.

And I recently discovered a new one, WFUV out of Brooklyn.

Of all places.

Oh, really? They're actually lovely.

Go back to what I recall of being on the air as the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded.

When I was at WFUV, my air shift at that time began at 10 a.m., and I went on the air just minutes after the first tower had fallen, not realizing that they had fallen.

that it had fallen at that point.

And WFUV really stepped it up in the weeks, really, following 9-11-2001 with our programming, where we basically just played anything that worked as a way to heal and cope with what was going on.

So I'm going to play a lot of things that... that I recall playing back 25 years ago on WFUV.

And also, you know, that will include a lot of selections from the album America, A Tribute to Heroes, which documents that fundraising broadcast that followed 9-11.

Also, the concert for New York City that took place at the Garden, that live album, stuff from Bruce Springsteen's album, The Rising, and some other odds and ends.

So, Russ, the last time I got to see Brian perform was at our last holiday cheer event in 2023.

I know.

So my Uncle Joe was a professor at Fordham Law and acting dean for a while as well at Fordham Law.

And I, although I transferred, did attend Fordham University, Rose Hill, for two years and was on WFUV, and that's where I got my love of broadcasting.

Now, what's your story, your origin story, Ryan, with getting here?

So my origin story is when I was at Fordham at WFUV, my mentor there who actually just passed away, Bob Ahrens, who really taught me the art of play-by-play, he had created the Marty Glickman Award, which was given to the best play-by-play broadcaster each year.

And so for all of us, that was like, you know, the ultimate.

That was winning, you know, the Larry O'Brien.
