Wetback

Yeah, that's incredible.

I wanted to add one more thing that's kind of related, and it's coming out in this period, is, um, Operation Wetback and the Bracero Program, Wetback as institutionalizing immigration crackdowns and sort of forcing migrants into the terms of the Bracero Program, in other words, into, um, a guest worker program.

And can you talk a little bit about that just to clarify how it kind of transforms undocumented workers into guest workers?

Yeah.

And then as you mentioned, we have not...

You know, and I...

This is something I've tried to do in Migra, and I, I still am trying to do it to this day, is that Operation Wetback is a 10-year campaign.

It begins in 1944, and it really hits its, um, climax in 1954, that they had begun these really aggressive enforcement operations with trucks and planes and boats and trains and, you know, task force and all of that as early as 1944, where they're sweeping up hundreds and thousands of people all in a morning, detaining them in, um, detention facilities and then, uh, removing them, not just across the border, but deep into the interior of Mexico.

They definitely-

Wetbacks.

[laughs]

Yeah.
