Westin Hotels & Resorts

So my favorite project from my father was a hotel he did in 1994.

That is the Westin Los Cabos, and it's just an incredible project.

and has this idea similar to the project that we were just talking about of how you create a tension with the landscape.

So really the entire hotel, which is quite dense, was one single element that is intersecting these two mountains, and it's framing the sea.

Yes.

Were there any big projects which particularly defined the practice? I would say definitely some of the highlights.

I'm not going to mention all of them, but the hotel, the Westin Regine Los Cabos is 1994, Nantara in 2005, and a church in Mexico in 2008, San Ignacio, which are definitely one of the highlights of our project.

You need to understand it, right? So the best place for me to understand that and learn that was in hotels.

So I applied to work for the Westin in Dublin, which was, you know, big kind of international brand.

And I had then, you know, gone through the rigmarole of, you know, they needed a bar back.

Okay, but I worked in this, I ran this bar, like, you don't know nothing.

You know, like, it was like, okay, I went in as a bar back basically to start the Westin.

And then I did a full winter season in the West End in Dublin and then went back to Marbella the following summer again to the same place that I was running the season before.

But this time my drinks were a little bit more elevated, my cleanliness was better, my understanding of how to organize the back bar.

So I had learned some techniques in the West End at that point that I then applied to this cool little hangout.

If I've got a 5 a.m. flight, I'm going to stay at the Westin.

Yeah.

Why? Points.

She got the cool hotel.

I booked the Westin, which is on- I think, where was my hotel? It was like maybe a half a block from the

campus.

So is this the one, though, that was having homecoming and the game and that she was like...

and also downplayed the jihad conference that Hamaway attended.

On November 29th, 1991, first annual conference of the Islamic Charity Project International, held at the Westin Hotel in Detroit, titled Towards a Global Islamic Economy.

The featured speakers were leaders of jihadists and Islamic terrorist groups, Omar Abdel Rahman, head of Egypt's Gamat Islamah, Ahmed Nofal, leader of Hamas, and Hassan al-Tarabi, leader of Sudan's National Islamic Front.

This is like a really small tangent, not really about AI, but, but I recently had a conversation with a number of, of wellness experts.

A woman named Mia, who opened a bunch of the wellness offerings for like the, a bunch of the Starwood brands, like the St. Regis and The Westin and whatever, has really been thinking about these for a really long time.

And they talked about all these hotels doing incredible things to offer wellness or whatever, and forgetting the bare minimum, which is quality of sleep.

The thing you do the most, which is sleep.

So, I mean, I would not, you know, write that off.

And the Westin is super nice.

I usually start with Wailea because, you know, if you have the budget to go to Maui, it's at least something that you're going to consider.

But I always am providing a Kaanapali option, too, because, I mean, Maui is Maui.

So I'm sure it's only gotten a little bit.

And that was

coming off of staying at the Westin, which had, you know, it's absolutely beautiful renovation.
