Western redcedar

And there are some that just aren't well adapted to the heat that we seem to be experiencing now.

And I'm thinking about native plants like the Western Red Cedar or the Big Leaf Maple, where we see a lot of decline in population because it's just too hot.

Or our precipitation cycles are different than they used to be.

And there isn't as much or enough water for some trees now to really thrive.

And you know what, when I started out, I was using a lot of Doug for particle grain Doug for and I was using.

I mean, up until last year as well, I was using a lot of Western red cedar, which is amazing wood for snowboards.

But and I actually want to start going back to that a little bit, but it's so expensive.

It's like, I think it's five bucks a lineal foot for six inch wide stuff.

And it really, over the last couple of years since the pandemic has just gone through the roof.

But I do think that it'd be nice just to not have to get wood from the East Coast, you know, with Polonia.

So I might start dabbling with that and see if I can replace the Polonia with the Western Red Cedar.

I do know that it's not as light, but it's a little bit stiffer and it has a little bit more, because the grain's so uniform on it, where Polonia isn't super uniform.

Lots of fir options between Douglas fir, Grand fir, Sebalpin fir.

We were even entertaining Western Red Cedar.

that process, we got about 40 potential candidates.

And then the leadership for this project, we actually went out and looked at all of them and refined that to a much smaller list of 12.
