Western pleasure

And I was just thrown on a, on a-- Not literally thrown on a horse, but I was put on a horse that, a young quarter horse, and was going in a walk-trot class, you know, 11, 12-year-old Patrick on this, on this horse that was basically a catch ride, belonged to our farrier's wife.

And it was a very, very barbarically trained Western pleasure horse, as many of them are.

I often refer to it as Western displeasure, so I hope that doesn't piss off any of your listeners.

But-

The horse was, was part of that industry and, and really had a lot of mental challenges as a result of it.

Uh, the Western pleasure horses.

And the horse was intelligent, and maybe I would say intelligent to his own detriment, and he realized that his life was not fair, and he would self-mutilate.

And if you want to go off with that other person or you really want to do working equitation or you really want to go have a go at Western Pleasure and it's this stuff that actually is, if that's really solid, everything just grows from it because that's the concrete of the foundations for that stuff to grow.

Absolutely.

And you've been riding since you were a kid, Western and English?

Yep, I did Western Pleasure whenever I was about seven and just starting out, and then I found a love for jumping whenever I was about nine years old.

Who doesn't love jumping? We got another one.

Like, he kind of has his head in a spot for trail.

He holds it a little bit different when we do the horsemanship versus when I randomly make him do Western Pleasure.

It's got to be a little lower, which is not that often.

But having his head set.

They have an English horse.

They might have a Western pleasure horse.

It's not the same horse, but for that same horse to be able to do games, to turn around and do dressage, to be able to do the English, to be able to do the, the Western pleasure.

Like you're asking a lot of different things of that horse.

There's different expectations in every one of those classes.

And it's just a different talent.

I've never

understood Western pleasure, though.
