They're praised for how they behave when they go up to the capital.

The Welsh newspapers, the Western Mail, talks about their enthusiasm and the Welsh invasion of London.

You know, possibly early bits of Welsh nationalism being present there.

Welshness, yeah.

This battle absolutely takes over the headlines, even though there's loads of stuff going on, even though it's two or three months after the invasion of Normandy.

If we pop over to the Western Mail, the National Daily of Wales and Monmouthshire, Sky troops hit at Hitler's flank.

But this idea... that the the walls themselves although what what materials would be in these metallic walls but the idea that the walls themselves are recording events that happen around them and are playing them back could something similar be happening in a place of industry could this ironworks in some way have trapped events from the past and was it playing them back well the newspaper editor for the western mail at the time certainly didn't think so not that that particular hypothesis was proposed to them but they just thought the entire story was a little bit rubbish and i think it's fair to say they introduced it with considerable skepticism suggesting that the claims were the result of to quote spirits spirits that came from the castle or the bush, the two local pubs as opposed to the works themselves.

So he's saying, yes, these events are the results of spirits, but not spooky spirits, rather the kind of spirits that you find behind the bar in a pub, which I have to confess is a joke I use all the time myself, so I can't criticize the editor here.

If you've ever seen any of my live talks, I am sure I will drop that one in at some point, which... just go to show how old my jokes are even in the 19th century they were old but the editor introducing this story suggests that the witnesses to these events had maybe had one too many spirits of a boozy variety before this happened however however the murther correspondent the man who was there on the ground investigating and speaking to people the man who supplied the original report was far less In fact, they insisted it was vouched for on unimpeachable authority, a lovely Victorian way of saying trustworthy sources.

And therefore, this is something that has been carrying on for generations and that nobody has been able to explain.

Maybe grandfather and father and son and grandson, all these generations, And they've all heard these stories, they've all heard these sounds in some cases, they've spoken of them, and they've passed these tales down, but alas, nobody can explain them.

But you'll be glad to know, I'm not gonna just leave you totally hanging with no explanation whatsoever for this, because to wrap things up, our reporter, and as mentioned, the reporter is much more open-minded than the skeptical, the grumpy old Western Mail editor.
