Westcar Papyrus

It seized the poor young man by its jaws, dragging him to the bottom of the lake and to his doom.

This story comes to us from an ancient Egyptian text called the Westcar Papyrus and was said to take place in the Old Kingdom's Fourth Dynasty more than 4,000 years ago.

And as fanciful as it is, this kind of tale is not uncommon because wax and the bees who make that wax are some of the most common features in spell casting and witch lore.

In fact, the idea that witches and bees are in cahoots was a common feature in English witch trials.
