Wesleyan Methodist Church

Right.

This was now Wesleyan Methodist School.

The, the, the former school was a Dutch Reformed Church.

Right.

uh and i heard my name was up for it but i just thought okay if i get it then that's what the lord wants if it doesn't i got plenty to do right here and i love what i'm doing i'm just going to continue on so it's really one of those hands open if this is what god wants this is what i'll do and so I was elected in 2008.

Now, interestingly enough, the Wesleyan Methodist Church ordained the first woman to ever be ordained in the United

States.

1850 something,

When I was a boy, I spent a lot of time with them.

Uh, we lived in Los Angeles, but my father died when I was young, and my mother would send me to be with them, and they were very devout Wesleyan Methodists.

And my grandmother was particularly known for her teaching ability in the scripture.

There was a, I would say, quiet acknowledgement of something supernatural, but we were not, in any sense of the word, chasing the Holy Spirit or a particularly supernatural family.

And then I went to summer camp, which was probably more the basis of my Christianity as a whole.

And that was more like Wesleyan Methodist, which was more like relationship with God, evangelism, more emotionally expressive, but not Pentecostal.

So I don't know.

I feel like I've experienced multiple flavors of Christianity over my life.

It was my bubble.

That was my church.

And that was where the Wesleyan Methodist came in.

When I was there, I don't really know what that meant.

And we look at the 1785 edition.

Between 1770 and 1785 a controversy arose between Wesleyan Methodists and Evangelical Calvinists and was debated mainly in pamphlets on the role of good works in salvation.

Wesley was afraid that some Methodists were leaning too much toward Calvinism in their teaching on salvation and good works.

The Calvinists responded by charging Wesley of asserting salvation by works and of leaning towards the Roman Catholic position of justification by inherent righteousness.
