Wernicke's area

So they're looking at their fist, and then the nervous system signals them to turn their head, so they have to use the gyroscope for their head, the vestibular system, to orient their head around and switch their whole body and mirror the other side.

Well, because that's the beginning of visual processing, the brain, that is a reflex that's moving them back and forth, and it is developing the pathways from the ear to the rest of the brain, both visual and auditory, right? 'Cause obviously you're seeing, that's the visual that's going back to the occipital lobe, but the moving your head back and forth, that's the vestibular system, also the beginning of the auditory pathways that go from the ears over here to Wernicke and Broca's area and all that good stuff.

So when I have kids that come in with reading, math, and spelling problems, I have yet to find a student who is not having problems with ATNR.

That is a major finding and is critical for the fact that will allow us to look for early signs and get remediation for those areas of weakness.

Now, this confirmed an earlier study from the same lab, which found something similar in the white matter, specifically a structure called the arcuate fasciculus, I had to look it up, which you can think of as a highway connecting the sound part of the brain, the Wernicke, to the meaning part of the brain, the Broca.

And damage to the left temporal lobe impairs verbal comprehension and production.

While right temporal lobe damage affects non-verbal memory and facial recognition.

We'll look at the occipital lobe, which handles vision.

Now we head over to the temporal lobe located near the ears.

The temporal lobe processes auditory input, language comprehension, and memory formation.

On the left side, it houses what we mentioned earlier, Wernicke's area, and it's responsible for understanding speech.

So when this area is damaged, it can lead to something called Wernicke's aphasia, fluent but meaningless speech and poor comprehension.
