Wendell Pierce

He became the first black four-star general in the history of the United States.

So why did I select Daniel Chappie James Jr.? Well, I was listening to an episode of Fresh Air, and the actor Wendell Pierce was being interviewed.

You may know his work, for example, Detective William Bunkmoreland, The Wire, James Gurin, Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan.

He's a highly skilled actor.

And so it was a great experience because I got to meet some incredible directors.

I obviously got to meet John and Wendell Pierce, who's a gem of human being.

He really believed in me, too.

And You know, he'd go out to the bar with all the youngins and really talk to us and stuff like he was such a sweetheart.

So they didn't, you know, he's not covered under the university.

So I was like, and Wendell Pierce, man, Wendell and I were, you know, playground rivals in baseball or whatever.

Our teams always played each other.

And he told me one day, he said, man, why are you not acting? And I said, man, I'm writing.

You know what I'm saying? You very seldom have 20 year old character actors that have a career unless they're like comedic, you know, or something like that.

and uh so yeah you know they're the you know they're the frat boy ass you know that type of deal but uh i went back man uh first got cast on treme uh and what's crazy john is that i had auditioned for a year before i booked oh wow really yeah it's because i got back in the summer of 2010 I was trying to get a job as a writer on Tremé, because I watched the first season when I was in LA and I'm like, oh, I gotta be a part of this.

And I called Wendell Pierce, he said, hey man, they only hire people that they've had experience or people they've had a history with.

So I was like, I gotta get on, even if I'm just an extra, I gotta get on this show because even though it wasn't perfect, it was the closest representation I'd ever seen in New Orleans culture on TV.

And

for two minutes, we get the great Wendell Pierce.

I was not expecting it, and I was like, holy shit, the bunk is in this movie.

I know! I

It's the bunk! I couldn't believe it! And he's great, as always, even though he probably is like,

I don't know.

I do like that Wendell Pierce is still just like a guy.

Wendell Pierce is still just Wendell Pierce, even in the world of Twilight.

Yep.

And it also stars Wendell Pierce is there, Sienna Miller's there, Max Beasley's there for some

reason.

Max Beasley is the lead villain in a major motion picture.

And he's like, Jack Ryan is such a G that I can just run in the middle of the road and not have to worry about any traffic behind me.

Apart from when these cars suddenly start chasing me and then I'm just going to run down the road a bit more instead of immediately getting on the pavement.

He eventually goes through a park and then it turns out, It's just Wendell Pierce trying to say hello.

And he's like, why wouldn't you just say hi to me like a normal person? Well, that wouldn't be any fun.

I feel like I'm thinking of someone.

Wendell Pierce.

Yes, there is an actor.

I think he might have been in Waiting to Exhale.

Yes, he was.

He was the like cringe guy in Waiting to Exhale.
