Like I mentioned in the intro, it's been reported that no existing photographs of Jane have been found yet, which is why we are still using the composite sketch that was created for her as the cover photo for this episode.

Details are sketchy, but according to records from Ancestry.com, which have been shared on Reddit and in the Websleuths forum, after Jane was placed in the St. Joseph's Orphanage for girls, it sounds like she was never adopted by another family and remained there until she reached early adulthood.

Jane may have suffered from some sort of developmental disability as she wound up being placed in a facility which is known today as the Columbus Developmental Center, but back then, it went under a much different and very politically incorrect name, the Ohio Institution for Feeble-Minded Youth.

It appears that at some point, Jane left the institution and relocated to Chicago, as according to census records, in 1950, she worked as a live-in maid for a Hungarian-born wholesale shoe salesman named James Hartman, as well as his wife Mildred and their two young children, Michael and Grace, and this might help explain how Jane got the surname Hart.
