Webpack

It was a build system essentially, um...

At the time, they were trying to rival Webpack, um, what they were working with.

And I w- I was there initially when they were building the docs.

I flew out to San Francisco.

It supports the model federation format.

So like that model federation format is like originally it was a specific Webpack technology.

It's kind of become a bigger thing now.

And it's a specific like way of packaging modules so that they can be marshaled by other modules that are understood by like Webpack and RSPack.

Mm-hmm.

And it's a unified build pipeline.

And the reason is so that when you're like running the build server and you're like editing CSS and you're editing JS or whatever, if you go and edit a block, it's going to like automatically rebuild itself.

as part of that same build process and because that build process is significantly faster than like webpack which is what create block runs on so yeah because we're using es build the build process is like three to five times faster and so that that was something i didn't want to sacrifice and i also didn't want different transpilers and stuff built in like we're going to use webpack for this but we're going to use es build for that and i just want everything to be like kind of controlled by the same underlying system

Yeah, and it looks like WordPress is going to move away from Webpack at some point in time.

There's already a new build system that's in testing, and I think they use it.

Jetpack, I think, uses it for a lot of their stuff already.

Because, yeah, Webpack was great.

Everything is great at the time.

Now there's better solutions.

Now go learn SvelteKit.

There was Webpack for a while.

You know, there's all these other things.

And then...

Like you can ask it.

I guess the whole point here is that you don't necessarily have to avoid AI to do this, which is nice.

Back in the day when we went from like Webpack and then we had React and all these other things that I've already mentioned.

Back in the day with all that, the thing that sucked is everything was learned either trial by fire, whether that be a boss putting you trial by fire or you doing it yourself or you're just like, I'm learning React.

And it even integrates with any build tool you have.

Vite, Rollup, Webpack, ESBuild via Unplugin.

Or you can use the built-in CLI using the TypeScript 7 API for standalone TSGO projects.

This is super cool.

You know, you say, hey, I want to try out RSPack or Vite or something.

And it's like, no, no, we're using Webpack.

And then it'll just even like silently switch it back to Webpack because there's just so much documentation written around that.

And this is happening so often.

I've also heard the experience that some are having where, you know, if they've had a major change with that, you know, with that product, the old documentation is showing up and giving bad advice then.
