We Used to Live Here

I'm Michael David Wilson, and every episode, I chat with the world's best writers about writing, life lessons, creativity, and much more.

Today is the second part of my conversation with Marcus Klaper, The New York Times bestselling author of The Caretaker, We Used to Live Here, and his brand-new audiobook short story collection, Please Remain Seated.

In this episode, we dive deeper into his standout novel, The Caretaker.

So we will get to that imminently, but first, a quick advert break.

With that said, here it is.

It is Marcus Klaper on This is Horror.

So to talk a little bit more about We Used to Live Here, I want to know, in terms of it getting picked up with a publisher and in terms of it also having the film rights bought, what that journey looked like.

Yeah, it was a, a rollercoaster that I feel like I'm still kind of on in some ways, where basically I'd mentioned earlier how I got reached out to when I was on Reddit, and then my, uh, the guy who's my manager now basically was like, "We, we, we really loved your writing.

Um, "Please Remain Seated" by Marcus Cle- Cleaver? I don't know how to say his last name.

He has got some, like, popular books, like "We Used to Live Here" and "The Caretaker," which are really popular.

But this is three little spooky novellas, Land, Air, and Sea.

It has three.

There was, like, nothing unique

...

I've heard mixed things about his other book too, like the "We Used to Live Here" or whatever.

I've heard mixed things.
