Since it had no tape deck, I'd prop a small boombox on the emergency brake, blasting mixtapes I'd cobbled together from my Columbia House CD purchases.

When the tape deck's batteries ran out, WDST was there to pick up the slack.

This was the time that I discovered the thrill of seeing music live, too.

Of course, there were national acts at the Civic Center and The Chance, Bearsville Theater and the Clearwater Festival, but even more important was seeing local acts, like Como Zoo and Go Van Go at the Rhinecliffe Hotel, or my personal favorite, Perfect Thyroid at God knows how many random venues, like the Accord train station.
