What I find almost more interesting than the sighting itself is what it triggered.

The story got enough regional pickup that a local news station, WCPO, called up Mark Matthews, the same officer from 1972, to get his take on it.

And 44 years after the fact, Matthews restated the same iguana explanation on the record one more time.

There's something almost touching about that continuity to me.

Yesterday, I guess it was, the, uh, Ukrainians are back to bombing Russian infrastructure, and of course the price of diesel's gone up through the roof, and it's really, uh, rocking our local gasoline prices.

I guess, uh, it looked like the WCPO John Materese, which is the, the watchdog for consumers, uh, he reported that, uh, Cincinnati area gas up to 4.59 a gallon, and I did a GasBuddy search this morning, and while you c- still can find gas in the low $4, and I even saw a Thornton's up in the Loveland area that had it for, uh, $3.70 some odd cents, at least as of five hours ago.

I wouldn't hold my breath looking for that place right now.

It's probably already gone up.
