Understanding that Mesa County is a, a conservative-leaning county, I wanted to make sure that who I appointed and who we recommended to take her place in oversight of that election would be someone that would be trusted.

And I actually asked my 2018 Republican opponent, former Republican Secretary of State Wayne Williams, to take oversight over that election, and he did a fabulous job.

So I work with Republicans often, I would say, on a near-daily basis.

But to frame standing up for our democracy as partisan is the wrong take.

During that earlier time, the first deputy secretary was Bill Hobbs.

The second, under Secretaries Scott Gessler and Wayne Williams, was Suzanne Taheri.

And so we invited the mayor.

and his former opponent, who is now his chief of staff, Wayne Williams, and they have this beautiful conversation about how they don't agree, but they respect one another, and they really glean from each other's point of view.

And somehow we mentioned the pledge, and then the mayor said, that's a great idea.

Y'all should do it.
