Wayne Clark

What would some of your favorite memories be in that area?

Well, Betty, um, individually, um, doing work with Wayne Clark and Bruce Reed when I saw them as young guys and thought, "These guys have got real potential." And I don't know what it is, but you can look at some blokes and say, "He's got it.

I think he's got it.

If he does the work, he's got a good chance of making it." So with Wayne and Bruce Reed, I spent two winters with them down at Hillcrest on a Sunday morning, if it wasn't raining, and just teaching them what I thought they had to learn.

Everybody from first grade to fourth grade, you know, were treated equally.

Well, that was what my perspective was.

And, uh, Danny and Ray Shaw, Peter Lawrence, Wayne Clark, Tom Mullooly, Mel O'Neil, you know, they're terrific.

And, uh, when we first started off, Mel really put the emphasis on young players.
