Yeah.
MattHOST

So we were talking about like, okay, real time, you know, changing billboards and stuff because, you know, like Wave Race 64, I think if you play anything on the Switch or even the Wii, they had to remove Kawasaki, you know, branding and logos from everything and stuff.
MattHOST
10:14
And like it's had this has happened in like old games when they've re-released them and someone had to go in and just remove like logo placements or stuff.
MattHOST
10:22
Right.
Red RoosterHOST
42:13
But even for the back then, that was not very good.
Red RoosterHOST
42:15
But, however, this extreme drought finally broke when the next wave of games hit the shelves, being Wave Race 64 in November and Mortal Kombat 11 maybe about a week later.
Red RoosterHOST
42:27
Sorry, not Mortal Kombat 11.
Red RoosterHOST
42:28
Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
Brad LeBaronHOST
11:43
yeah yeah yeah i believe so yeah yeah
Dave GallagherHOST
11:47
so yeah for me it was sublime for playing like wave race 64 because i remember when that game came out i remember always being kind of being a fan of sublime at that point so like yeah it fit that mood like that it was fast it was this fast pace but it felt like um i don't know just like the vibe of the music fit the game so you're trying to pick like a like a video game memory yeah and again like i joked in our in our chat that I've always listened to music while I played games.
Dave GallagherHOST
12:16
So it was a tough one.
Dave GallagherHOST
12:17
But for something that kind of stood out, I can still visualize being a kid sitting on the floor playing the game.
Scuba SteveHOST
24:50
Let's make that great.
Scuba SteveHOST
24:52
When the game itself was shown off in Japan, Nintendo Power interviewed Miyamoto, Tezuka, and Kono, where the game was compared to Wave Race 64.
Scuba SteveHOST
25:02
Kono stated that Mario Kart 64 was aimed towards everyone, while Wave Race 64 was aimed at an older audience.
Scuba SteveHOST
25:08
Kono said that they were originally planning to use both the control stick and the control pad to play the game and that sounds terrible uh so he but he ended up settling on focusing with the control stick and wanted to make players feel as if they were controlling an rc car they even bought a bunch of rc vehicles to get a feel for it while the programmers they made a bunch of simulations they were really pulling on real world driving um kind of techniques and putting those into simulation so they ended up with a pretty detailed simulated racing game the problem was it was too real and the play testers ended up getting dizzy and nauseous and even worse than that the game was just boring and not fun to play But, I mean, when you add the items, when you add the craziness of Mario Kart, what makes it fun, I suppose.
Scuba SteveHOST
26:03
But I enjoyed some regular racing games back then, too.
Vinny OHOST
76:04
I was.
Vinny OHOST
76:04
I played some Wave Race 64.
Vinny OHOST
76:06
Hell yeah.
Vinny OHOST

Ben MaddoxHOST
46:27
I also think back to games I've mastered on a video game console.
Ben MaddoxHOST
46:30
I still enjoy going back through Wave Race 64 cups or beating Contra on the NES.
Ben MaddoxHOST
46:35
Smoothly playing through these familiar games is charming.
Ben MaddoxHOST
46:38
The game does lay its enchantment on me.
SteveHOST
46:47
I mean, we don't really experience...
SteveHOST
46:48
And should you,
Ben MaddoxHOST
46:49
when you're 17, be out kissing girls rather than playing Wave Race 64?
SteveHOST
46:53
I mean, if anybody wants to kiss you back.
CasenHOST

Don CasanovaPANELIST
