After heading to the Mississippi River this week, the Hawks face another toughie in week four against better-than-the-record-indicates Waukee Northwest.

Pleasant Valley at Iowa City West, 7 p.m. at Trojan Field.

Pleasant Valley is 0-2.

Each of the next three opponents are currently 0-2.

With top 10 foes West Des Moines Valley and Dallas Center-Grimes up next, this feels like a must-win for Waukee.

Iowa City High at Waukee Northwest, 7 p.m. at Waukee.

City is 1-1.

And then what we see from Cale Winter and his speed and athleticism that he plays out at the center position and what we thought was going to be Cade Peeper coming into the year.

And this former walk-on from Waukee Northwest just says, oh, no, slow down.

He's going to take over the job.

And you're seeing Cale Winter.

To me, it's Waukee Northwest.

Yes, it has had a tough schedule.

Yes, it lost two outstanding receivers.

Also, MMCRU capped an undefeated season with a Class 3A state title in 2025.

They are winless against unranked teams.

In our area, I would have to say West Branch is somewhat of a surprise, starting 0-2, although it has played two top-flight opponents and Independence, a team that has enjoyed a great deal of success as of late.
