What's up, what's up? My name is DJ Mel, and you are listening to The Sound of Firsts, coming to you from the beautiful podcast studios here at Waterloo Records, deep in the heart of Austin, Texas.

And we're back.

It's been a while.

I'm a singer, songwriter, artist from here in Austin.

I've been performing here for my whole life.

And I do have some history with Waterloo Records.

When I was in high school, I did a little internship week here during South by Southwest.

And it meant...

You know, you go out to the local record stores that are here.

You go to like Waterloo Records, which is amazing.

You go, Waterloo Records, it's crazy.

You go there, it's packed.

It's like going to fucking Target or something.

The last hundred episodes have been really, really exciting.

It started off with a video episode with the former owners and new owners of Waterloo Records with 1501.

That was very exciting.

We talked to, uh, we talked to DJ Cassandra for episode 1502.

She will be, on September 22nd, she will be playing Ham Day on Tuesday, September 22nd at 4:30 at East Village.

And Wednesday, September 23rd, I will be back in town for this and I will be going to this myself.

Wednesday, September 23rd, she will be at Waterloo Records doing an in-store at 5:30 PM.

So the first time I ever had enough money to go to like a record store at Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas was when I was 16.

I just got my truck.

So I had like a summer job and I had saved a bunch of money.

I was lucky enough to have that, so I could always, you know, listen.

It's kind of like a Waterloo Records act- you know, his like little store.

Yeah.

But I also obviously grew up where MTV at the time was also just like let's, you know, TRL and all that.
