Watchmen

Damon Lindelof likes to structure this.

We saw this on Watchmen and in The Leftovers, where you're not going to know until you just watch the episode.

I don't want you to be able to predict every part of the answer with lines and little Easter eggs.

I want you to kind of understand what...

So anything Lindelof, really.

So like The Leftovers or Watchmen.

Yes.

Like I didn't get to do full, full, full, full podcasts for all of those.

The aliens who kind of gave him his powers are... are starting to lose their confidence in him so they're having him train a potential replacement who's played by Aaron Pierre and so it's this dynamic where they're sort of partners but they also are rivals and that kind of tension kind of erupts throughout the show and I think a lot of people were a little bit puzzled by the mix of elements at the beginning of the show because they're like the Green Lantern is one of the craziest science fiction superheroes why are you doing this weird small town gritty mystery that's that's not what Green Lantern is but I think they ended up fitting together pretty well I liked the combination of ingredients I did think that it It didn't always work.

I think one of the other creators of the show is Damon Lindelof, who I think did an incredible job making Watchmen the show that was to a large extent about policing and race in America.

And I think this also tries to, again, you have this sort of up and coming black superhero and kind of all the baggage that he's dealt with.

But I think the writing is not quite as strong on this show.

That's what I say anytime someone tries to bring up racism to me.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

But I think that, you know, that if you watch a show like Watchmen, it like dramatizes that and explores that in ways that I think this show is a little bit kind of just,

I'll watch anything Damon Lindelof puts his hand into.

The Leftovers and Watchmen in the last decade have been some of the best TV produced, I think.

And I've heard nothing but good things about Lanterns, except from the usual idiots online.

And it's like, you can tell the types, you know, if it's annoying them, then it's normally something I'm going to be enjoying.

little uh fact for you uh i learned about the tulsa race massacre through the watchmen tv series i'd never heard of it i did not know about it i learned a lot about it through the series and then through my own reading and uh and uh explorations and uh We've come full circle because I pitched an after show for Watchmen and Foxtel wasn't up for it.

And so I turned it into a podcast.

And that's how we are here today.

Yeah, you'd be hard-pressed to say who's number one or if there's a clear-cut worst series or worst episode or whatever.

I'm thinking back maybe 2019 when we got the Watchmen series over on HBO.

So good.

We were still getting Walking Dead.

Other than Superman, the movies aren't terribly well received.

I like Lanterns, but it's such, it's Watchmen, but Green Lanterns.

And I just, I don't know.

I think you might be onto something.
