Wasting Light

In this special episode, we're revisiting conversations with three fans who've lived it...

We start in 2011 when the band were promoting Wasting Light, an album famously recorded in Dave Grohl's garage.

The Foo Fighters ran a competition inviting fans to have the band come and play in their garages.

One of the winners was Nick Perry, a musician himself from Milton, Ontario.

I'm not going to listen to...

I think Foo Fighters is up until Wasting Light.

Yeah? Yeah.

Okay.

But I left it at five.

I didn't bump it on up, but it was released in November 1st, 2011 on the Wasting Light album, which I'm going to make some points about that.

And by far, it's my fastest rising Foo Fighters song.

And it's Dave Grohl himself said, this may be the best song I've ever written.

Hey man, if you can work an accordion in...

You got something going on there.

The other is I should have known from the Wasting Light album.

But the piano, that's the central instrument to this.

And then it just dropped.

And it was right after Wasting Light came out.

And for Wasting Light, like Foo Fighters did like a garage tour where they picked winners.

They didn't charge anything.

They just showed up at people's garages and then they played a show in their garage.

so um final question uh it's one that we ask most of our guests at strange grooves we call it strange solitary sounds um you're locked and say what's you're locked in this container right here and you don't know when you're going to be getting out but there is a record player and you're allowed to have three records with you what are those records and why

Wasting Light by the Foo Fighters, one of my favorite records of all time.

It's probably one of the best captures of a band that did a run for years and years and years putting out records, and they just hit a new peak.

The Beatles, Abbey Road, obvious reasons.

Have you guys ever seen that

clip of, I think it was when the Foos were recording Wasting Light back in whenever it was.

And like Dave and Taylor just like sat like loafing back out on the sofa and they're listening to playback.

And Taylor's just like, wouldn't it be cool if like this drum sound faded out and like another drum sound faded out.
