Target Book Day 2026!

He wasn't ill yet, he just asked if me or any of my peers would like to mix up some lines of Shakespeare with Doctor Who for little pop-outs in the book, just odd pages with a single line of Shakespeare rewritten to be about Doctor Who.
J
18:05Julian RichardsGUEST
So all of those single line rewrites that appear throughout the Shakespeare notebooks, they come from one brainstorming session that I and two of my friends spent on the Sofas of the Warwick Arts Centre after a Shakespeare lecture.
J

And I sent them over to Dad and said, by the way, for my final year Shakespeare project, I have rewritten the entirety of An Unearthly Child in iambic pentameter.
J

LAUGHTER And an earthly child of the episode, not the story, as Dad and I were in full agreement that it's two stories and one is a single episode long.

The decision to start the tenth edition of the British Art Show in Coventry is an important moment for the West Midlands art scene, according to the head of an art collective in the city.

The Hayward Gallery Touring's BAS10 show, A Chorus of Strangers, opened on the second of October, with displays at Warwick Arts Centre's Mead Gallery, Cov University, and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

It will later move on to other cities.

BAS10 features the work of thirty-seven artists, including that of Turner Prize winner Nnenna Kalu, all curated by the cultural commentator and writer Ikal Eshan.

"This is really important because there isn't anything in Coventry which supports artists to explore visual arts," said Kyla Craig, the creative director of Art Riot Collective.

"I really feel like this show is moving through the cities, and what we want to see from it is how we connect artists from the area locally that are outside London." Sarah Shalgowski, principal curator at Warwick Arts Centre, described the event as the biggest touring exhibition of contemporary art in the UK.

And the head of the tour, Brian Cass, added, "Coventry's always kind of assembled something new and remarkable from fragments of broken times.

It always felt like a very natural place to launch because that ethos of reinvention sits at the very heart of our show, which brings very ambitious, significant narratives to our making work over the last five years in the conversation with the histories of the city." BAS10 runs in Coventry until January next year before moving on to Swansea, Bristol, Sheffield, and finally Newcastle Gateshead over the following two years.
