Alex PearlmanHOST
22:43
Now I know what it's like to be you.
Alex PearlmanHOST
22:45
So they originally come up with this idea, and they start forming it, and they're going to call the game Rogue Trader.
Mrs. PearlmaniaHOST
22:53
Hate it.
Alex PearlmanHOST
22:54
I know.
Alex PearlmanHOST
22:54
It's a stupid name.
Alex PearlmanHOST
22:55
But that was what they were going to go with.
Alex PearlmanHOST
22:56
They were going to call it Rogue Trader was going to be the name of this new spinoff game.
Alex PearlmanHOST
23:00
Sounds like
Ross WatsonHOST
2:20
I've worked on a whole bunch of Warhammer 40k roleplay, the majority of that line.
Ross WatsonHOST
2:24
And if you like the lore behind Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, The Death Watch, The Inquisition, and quite a bit of the Imperial Navy, then, you know, I had a lot to do with that.
AlexisHOST
2:36
Heck yeah.
Ross WatsonHOST
2:38
I was also on the US White Dwarf team for a couple of years, and that's where I know my 40k from.

2 HRS 27 MINS LATER

AlexisHOST
149:26
Let me double check.
AlexisHOST
149:28
13 degrees here in Iceland, so it's a heat wave.
AlexisHOST
149:34
I'm also trying to check if Cypher appeared in anything prior to this, because sometimes random characters existed in Rogue Trader, but I don't think Cypher existed in Rogue Trader, unfortunately.
Ross WatsonHOST
149:47
No, he is a second edition character.
Kenny BoucherHOST
11:02
Yeah, it's the Olympics at the event.
Kenny BoucherHOST
11:04
So, like, your normal army that wins, you know, a painting award at your local Rogue Trader tournament, that's, like, the Olympic qualifier, bro.
Kenny BoucherHOST
11:14
And now you're actually competing against all the other dudes who also win best painted at their RTTs.
Kenny BoucherHOST
11:22
Not everyone gets a bronze, not everyone gets a silver and not everyone gets a gold.
John BarsottiHOST
10:19
By the way, fun fact about this, I was looking it up this morning, so Dante was in the first edition of the game, which is technically the second edition.
John BarsottiHOST
10:26
It's a matter of how you wanna look at it, 'cause you had Rogue Trader and then second edition.
John BarsottiHOST
10:30
There was no first edition 40K.
John BarsottiHOST
10:33
But I looked up the models available.
Dougal CochraneHOST
32:24
You spoke about Gamma World, and I'm sure a lot of this has come from or been inspired by Gamma World.
Dougal CochraneHOST
32:30
I also, back in the day, in my misspent youth, had a copy of Wama 40,000 Rogue Trader, and that had a massive table of mutations, and this is just taking me right back to it.
Dougal CochraneHOST
32:42
And lots of them are very much along those lines.
Andrew DoullHOST
32:45
Yeah, well, there's only so much you can do without a mechanism like the void giving you a set of, again, specific material conditions that you have to worry about.
CourtPANELIST
18:18
Just to what extent, like we know that Noise Marines obviously use sound at some capacity.
CourtPANELIST
18:23
I would guarantee that there's, you know, tribal drums with Space Wolves or whatever it is and, and like music may not have the cultural aspect that we kind of see in our world, but you know, it- I'm sure it plays a part.
CourtPANELIST
18:40
Of course it does.
CourtPANELIST
18:41
And, um, and I'm really hoping that, uh, Nickelback doesn't exist in the 40K universe.
CourtPANELIST
22:30
...
CourtPANELIST
22:30
Sloppy Bilepiper.
CourtPANELIST
22:32
Uh, he's part of, uh, he's a Nurgle unit, and he has a like bagpipe.
CourtPANELIST
22:39
He's got a bagpipe if you look him up.
ScottGUEST
38:00
Um, the art-
MarkHOST
38:00
The original, like, Rogue Trader art.
ScottGUEST
38:02
Exactly, yep.
ScottGUEST
38:03
It's the Rogue Trader art.
ScottGUEST
38:04
Um, that, that was done by a guy named John Civic.
ScottGUEST
38:07
Um, he did the Rogue Trader art, and I guess he also did a bunch of Warhammer fantasy art.
ScottGUEST
38:12
Um, and that's actually a common misconception.
ScottGUEST
38:15
This is a fun fact I found out from, um, from a, a YouTube video I saw, but, um, Bolt Thrower is actually from the fantasy game.
Ross WatsonHOST
4:03
I'm Ross Watson.
Ross WatsonHOST
4:04
I am a game designer and author you would know me from most of the warhammer 40k role-playing game line i was the creator of wrath and glory death watch rogue trader numerous other things if you like the lore for rogue traders the inquisition or the death watch a lot of that is me i also did a several warhammer 40k video games including battlefield gothic armada and i was part of the us white dwarf team for a couple of years so i have a lot of 40k knowledge and i'm excited to share it today
AlexisHOST
4:36
Now,
Ross WatsonHOST
4:38
one thing I should mention before we get too far down the line, I just finished a book that Alexis and I both really like.
Ross WatsonHOST
5:35
Oh, it's so cool.
Ross WatsonHOST
5:35
I was just like, this is rad.
Ross WatsonHOST
5:37
This is so Rogue Trader, but Eldar.
Ross WatsonHOST
5:39
I was so into
Ross WatsonHOST
3:45
I have worked on a bunch of Warhammer 40K stuff.
Ross WatsonHOST
3:47
Mostly, I'm well known for the Warhammer 40K role-playing game line, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Death Watch, and many others.
Ross WatsonHOST
3:55
Wrath and Glory was my creation.
Ross WatsonHOST
3:58
And I've worked on a few of the Warhammer 40k video games, like Battle for the Gothic Armada, which is in the Classics bundle, if you want to go find it.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
18:48
I don't think it exists any longer.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
18:50
But he basically took the original Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader, like the first edition of Warhammer, And painted up some Napoleonic guys and ran skirmish scenarios with those rules in order to prove that the scenario and the table mattered more than the rules.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:07
And it was just like a funny, weird thing.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:11
But it stuck in my brain for so long.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:12
So I was like, you know what? I'm going to do it.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:15
but with like world war ii so the last game i played was 40k rogue trader but it was actually like uh canadians ambushing a german infantry control so it was stupid it was stupid but it worked really well because in the end of at the end of the day a guy shooting at a guy is a guy shooting at a guy right The other thing I wanted to do is I realized at some point that I tend to overthink stuff when I'm setting up a game, because I want to set up too much terrain and too much stuff.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:47
And then it's like a whole hassle.
Ivan SorensenGUEST
19:48
And because right now, for the summer, we have suitable gaming tables upstairs and downstairs, but the upstairs is just too hot right now.
