Walter Peak

Um, they enjoy a range of experiences.

You know, when we do have a bit of volatile weather and the ski fields are closed, we find they, they jump on the Earnslaw and head, head over to Walter Peak and, um, yeah, it's been fantastic.

Let's talk about the Chinese numbers.

They, they really have surged, haven't they?

I've been very fortunate.

I've worked with a large number of high country farmers from Mount Nicholas, Walter Peak down here, right up to Muller Station in the Awaturi.

Glenmore would be one I spent probably more time on than any of the others.

These properties have got extensive native grasslands, alpine ecosystems, as well as more developed lower flats and that, and it's been a real privilege to be able to work with those farmers to help them understand what are the significant values on their farms and how their management interacts with that, and then helping them adjust that management sometimes to better support that native biodiversity.

So that was one of the first things that we did after we got there, was just hang out there.

Some of the other highlights for us that I had booked ahead, a trip on the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak farm.

And that's this, like, restored century-old steamship, and it's got, like, polished wooden decks and a big red smokestack that you can see, um, with steam billowing out of it.

Um, you can actually watch the workers as they're shoveling coal, um, into the steam-fired boilers.

And, um, I, I took this boat with my son, who, um, was four at the time, and then my husband and Quinn went up the mountain on the, um, the gondola, and they took a luge down.

So while they were doing that, we were doing this.

And you take this 45-minute cruise across the lake to Walter Peak, which is just this, like, picture-perfect sheep station.

It has rolling emerald pastures.

Like, sh- you know

... possibly the most beautiful spot in the world, blasted out there on the Earnslaw.
