Walter F. George

from Texas.

The other is Walter George from Georgia.

How was that relationship with the president, Harry Truman, in 49? Well, not a very

easy one, actually.

In fact, Walter George, whom you mentioned, actually was much closer eventually to Dwight Eisenhower, the Republican president.

He and Walter George were very close indeed later on when George was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Now, in 1949, George was a man in his 70s.

He'd been senator for Georgia since 1922.
