Ken BerryHOST

12:17
So they're, they're the healthiest nut out there, and they're a fantastic product to consume for your health, and so we need to get that out there.
Michael JamesonGUEST
12:24
And the, the California Walnut Commission has done a very, very good job of getting that message out to the, the consumer, not only, uh, domestically, but internationally.
Michael JamesonGUEST
12:34
And they've also done a really good job of trying to get more and more exposure for California walnuts.
Michael JamesonGUEST
12:39

Nick PapagniHOST
9:41
you should well tell us michael about the latest and it's always good news for the walnut industry is the usda is buying 28 million pounds of california walnuts how does that program work when you when you get 28 million pounds that's a lot how does that program work
Michael JamesonGUEST
9:59
well what you do is that uh you you put in for a bid and so you send in a bid to uh to the usda and then they evaluate it and then they'll allot out different portions of the bid certain dollar figures to different to different packers depending on their price and their volume that they can supply the program and then they set it up where you ship over a certain period of time and and it goes to a great use and it's it's for a good cause it's a great use it helps out society as well as it helps out the walnut industry because it takes that amount of product off the market it's no longer needed to be marketed and distributed to other other major markets that we're trying to generate more sales from and higher sales so yeah it's a really great program that they've done they've done it for a long time kind of tapered off for a little bit there but it came back this year and uh overall to clean up and they buy uh the lower grade so that's fantastic they don't buy the top grade they buy uh the lower grade which is historically one of the tougher grades to move and so it's a win-win they get they get product uh for their program and we we get to move a certain percentage of our product of lower grade off the market alleviates uh pressure on the market and allows uh those packers to focus on marketing the the better product they have in their inventory so yeah it's a really good program so we're real happy with that and uh Hopefully it does its job and gives a little relief to the overall California walnut market this year.
Michael JamesonGUEST
14:03
